Our house is circular, given we have two staircases. One in the living room, that goes up to the master bedroom and west wing, and the second one at the back of the kitchen, which goes up to the guest bedroom. We go up one and down the other all the time. And, with guests? It’s extremely efficient.
One of our next jobs is to replace the living room staircase with a traditional quarter turn chestnut staircase — though we do have that staircase tucked away in a neighbor’s garage, it will be another day we actually tackle it.
For now, here are photos of the master bedroom as we found it, cleaned, repaired and painted … just want to say? The floor was a bitch.
The shower/bathroom was a black hole of a closet…
And, down the open hallway into the guest room brings you here!
But wait … there is more … we tackled a long-considered project of the west wing. The attic space above the scullery and master bathroom, which now is office and den, which faces west over the garden. Not only did Liam rip out the old and put in the new, but simultaneously we took the roof off!
